Hiatus

We will be taking a hiatus here at Server Guy for several weeks. There are a couple of reasons for this…

First, my wife and I are expecting our first child any time now and as a result I’ll be taking a leave from work for several weeks… so there will be no interaction with the fun server stuff I normally do.

The second reason we’re going on hiatus is that the company I work for is in the process of being sold and it’s not at all clear I will have my job when everything settles down… not to mention I will be far to busy at work (until the baby comes anyway) to actually write up any articles about stuff I’m working.

Major Info at Work

A little over a week ago at work a major announcement was made. It seems the business unit I work for has been sold off to a competitor. The sale isn’t finalized, you see, there’s all the typical red tape to wade through… government approvals and whatnot. Anyway, the point is the amount of actual work for me at my place of employment has dropped to next to nothing for the moment. This means I will either have all kinds of time on my hands to start playing with IT related stuff that would be of interest here, or I will be so busy finding a new job (my position with the new company is about as far from assured as it can get) that I won’t have time to post anything… not that you’d notice a change. I have been far from consistent in posting regularly here.

Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that I’m able to work things out in such a way that I’ll have all kinds of time to play with spare equipment and do fun reviews and comment on various software and hardware that you’re all just dieing to hear about.

We’ll see what happens.

What’s this thing about?

I’m planning to use this blog to discuss a couple of different things. First, it will help to know I am a server administrator at a data center for a large (international) manufacturing company. I will be posting about projects I’m involved in at work… managing the server hardware, operating systems, backups and VMware environment at our data center.

I’ll also be discussing technology for the home whenever I happen to see something that interests me or sounds like something useful. This may include anything from product reviews to tips and tricks I read about. I also plan to write about relevant projects I’m doing at home.
