Nintendo DS Questions

I’ve been considering purchasing a new portable gaming system.  I’ve more or less dismissed the Sony PSP.  It’s just not very interesting.  The Nintendo DS on the other hand includes the touch screen, which allows for some interesting options for games… I guess what I’m saying is there seems to be some novelty with the gaming system even if it isn’t the winner as far as high end technology goes.

So what I’m really looking for is any suggestions or comments on the Nintendo DS.  Anything positive or negative you’d like to mention?

Christmas at Work

Over the last couple of weeks we have put in several orders for server equipment so we can be invoiced before the end of the year.  This happens nearly every year as the IT department spends the last of its budget money.  This year it seems like Christmas though, because the purchases have all been for new technology that I’ve been wanting to get my hands on.

We have purchased an upgrade to our VMware licensing to Virtual Infrastructure 3 Enterprise.  Which gives me several new features including a high availability option and the ability to dynamically move virtual machines between host systems to balance server loads without my intervention.

We have also purchased our first HP C-Class blade chassis along with a couple blade servers to go in it.  The new HP blades will allow us to increase the server density in our data center which is a good thing in itself.  There are also new features that allow us to better manage the server equipment.

The last thing we are planning to order is more storage for our SAN.  We currently have about 19TB of usable storage on the SAN (about 90% used) and we’re planning to add an additional 5TB of usable storage to it.  A SAN isn’t terribly exciting in itself but installing 5TB of storage into anything is fun.

Which Next Gen Game Console Do You Want?

So which of the latest generation of game consoles has you drooling? PS3 and Xbox 360 seem to be the technology power houses while the Wii hardware is more dated but they have the novelty factor going for them.

Personally I think I’d go for the Nintendo Wii if I had to choose one out of the bunch. I’m really at the point where hardware specs and improved graphics don’t impress me a whole lot. A higher level of interactivity with the game on the other hand, intrigues me. If I was looking for the best graphics I’d do all of my gaming on a PC where I can upgrade individual components as their performance increases.

Motion sensitive controllers on the Wii seem like they would put a new level of fun into gaming. Of course there’s also the idea that it might get people off their butts and moving around a bit… some of the couch potatoes may even get a little exercise and end up healthier for having played games on the Wii… a big plus in a time when all we seem to hear about is how overweight the population in the U.S. is getting. Let’s see Microsoft and Sony make those claims for their systems.
